Professor, student to debut original documentary theatre performance “Berlin ist Gefallen!”

Thiel College Assistant Professor of Performing Arts Pete Rydberg, Ph.D., and student researcher Austin Hall ’17 are preparing to debut their original documentary theatre performance “Berlin ist Gefallen!” (“Berlin has fallen!”) on Sept. 9 and 10. Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the William A. Robinson Theater.

Surprise party, media coverage mark President Traverso's first days in office

President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., arrived Monday for her first official day on the job. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette chronicled the first day for Thiel’s 20th, and first female, president online and in the print edition. Traverso and Thiel College were mentioned on the front page of the print edition, and a full story appeared on the front of its local section.

On Tuesday, more than 100 members of the campus community greeted President Traverso in the collaboration area of the James Pedas Communication Center at a surprise reception. Vice President for Finance and Management Bob Schmoll welcomed Traverso. She spoke briefly about the excitement of the arriving and returning students and maintaining Thiel College’s positive momentum.

Retreat theme is ‘Engaging Students for Success’ 

The annual employee retreat “Engaging Students for Success” is Tuesday, Aug. 23. The retreat begins with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. President Traverso will begin the presentations at 8:30 a.m. Members of The President's Cabinet, staff and faculty will lead breakout sessions. The retreat ends with a campus-wide luncheon. 

The retreat will be followed at 5 p.m. by the annual employee picnic. The cheer and dance teams and the Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride will perform. There will be activities for children, including a bounce house, face and glitter paint station, and a balloon artist.

Startup Weekend seeking students, entrepreneurs

The eCenter@LindenPointe business incubator is hosting a "Startup Weekend: Hermitage, Energy Edition" on Sept. 16-18. The first event of its kind in the Shenango Valley, it will promote energy innovation in the area. Startup Weekend is for developers, designers, marketers, students, entrepreneurs, attorneys and business owners.

Participants will learn how to create a real company and in the process meet mentors and potential investors, co-founders, and sponsors.

Early registration tickets cost $50 and $25 for students. Regular registration tickets cost $75 and $37.50 for students.

Maintenance Notes

On Friday, the Greenville Water Authority will be working on the water line in front of Hunton Hall. To do this work, the water will be shut off for four hours starting around 9 a.m.

The only affected buildings will be on lower campus and potentially the Davis apartments.

Howard Miller Student Center lawn

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will perform a free pops concert on the Howard Miller Student Center lawn. The event is part of Thiel College's yearlong celebration of its sesquicentennial. Guests should bring a blanket or their own chairs.
