White reminds students to keep learning to stay relevant

Steve White ’75 told the senior business seminar class of Professor David Miller ’61 that one of the best ways to be a valuable employee or be sought after is to keep learning long after graduation.

“He gave us a few words of wisdom before ending the presentation. He told us ‘be ready to change your mind even if you invented it.’ He also said, ‘be ready to change what you think is perfect.’” – Paige Bennett ’16

“‘The more you stay relevant, the more you will be in demand.’ This means that the more you stay up to date with technology and the growing corporate world, the more you will be wanted and utilized by companies.” – Adam Matthews ’16

“Mr. White gave us great advice for entering the workforce. His main point was to stay relevant. Learn how to learn. The world, and everything in it, is changing so quickly, but if we continue learning, we will always be relevant. Another way to stay relevant is to continue building a network. Networking is the most important skill in one’s professional life. It’s all about who you know. Once you land an interview through networking, it is then your time to shine.” – Kelsey Schneider ’16

“Steve stated that the greatest aspect that came out of his time at Thiel was learning how to learn. You must be able to adapt to the changing job market and Thiel taught him just how to do that. He also created many friendships that still last to this day during his journey at Thiel College.” – Jeffrey Jenkins ’16

“I really like Mr. White’s one sentence. If you do not learn something new every day that will help you succeed, then the day is wasted. I should think about using my day carefully because life is short. If one does not exert oneself in youth, one will regret it in old age.”  – Yao Li ’16
