Flint, Mich. pastor and activist among Earth Week speakers and activities

From the worldwide battle for access to clean water to the Flint, Mich. crisis, water issues are the focus of Thiel College’s 18th annual Earth Week celebration April 5-7. All events are free and open to the public. This year’s theme is “Water Justice and the Earth’s Future.”

Students help Prof. Miller celebrate birthday

Juniors and seniors from the class of Professor Karen Shaffer, M.B.A., celebrated the birthday of Professor David Miller, M.B.A. ’61 Wednesday morning. The students came together to sing “Happy Birthday” to the longest-tenured professor in the College’s history. Miller is in his 54th year of teaching at Thiel College.

Relay for Life of Thiel College selling T-shirts

T-shirts are on sale for $15 to support the Relay for Life of Thiel College.

To order a T-shirt download and fill out the form and give it to Debbie Schreiber in the Academic Records Office by the end of today.

Fifteen teams from different areas of campus are registered.

Contact Schreiber at ext. 2110 for information on the Roth Hall team The Young and the Rest of Us. They are asking for gift cards, which will be auctioned off at the Relay, as well as other donations. The walk is April 1 in the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

Phi Alpha Theta attends regional conference

On March 5, Koshan, Director of Langenheim Memorial Library Allen Morrill, M.L.S., and seven members of Thiel College’s Phi Alpha Theta history honor society attended the Western Pennsylvania Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at Mercyhurst University (Erie, Pa.).

Hall won best paper of his panel for his presentation “The Weimar Republic: The Failure of Democracy in Germany.”

Three other students presented papers.

The Alpha Gama Iota chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, inducted 19 new members on March 20. To be eligible, students must maintain a 3.4 grade point average or better and complete at least 12 credit hours in the Department of Education.

Employee Benefit Fair

The annual Employee Benefit Fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 in the Lutheran Heritage Room. Stop in anytime to meet vendors and providers who offer some great benefits to Thiel College employees.

Washington National Insurance meetings

Representatives from the Washington National Insurance Company are available until 4:30 p.m. today to discuss a new benefits program available to all employees (full-time and part-time) and related associates of Thiel College.

Meetings are in three locations.

Meetings take about 10 minutes. Attendees receive a free gift. No appointments are necessary and private meetings are available.

Pedas Presents: Sound and Vision: An Audiovisual Approach to Cinema Studies
March 30 at 7 p.m.
Stamm Lecture Hall, James Pedas Communication Center

Assistant Professor of Communication Ross Nugent, M.A., presents a lecture that explores the history of filmmaking as the development of an audiovisual language. His talk looks at the ways sound design affects creative decisions in cinematography and editing. The presentation includes clips from films highlighting the evolution of cinematic sound. The lecture is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
