Thiel announces public phase of largest capital campaign in College’s history

The public phase of the College’s most ambitious fundraising campaign in its 149-year history was announced today. The Thiel 2016 Campaign aims to raise $60 million by the end of 2016.

Homecoming 2015 memories will be 'Forever Gold'

Homecoming 2015 "Forever Gold" was an exciting and full weekend. On Friday, President Troy D. VanAken, Ph.D., publicly announced the launch of Thiel College's largest fundraising campaign in its history, Thiel 2016. A black tie gala was hosted to celebrate the announcement later that evening. The alumni awards, parade and football game highlighted Saturday's schedule. More than 170 pictures from the weekend are online at Thiel College's Flickr gallery.

Presidential debate, film editing talks set for Pedas Center series

Presentations on film editing and the Republican presidential debate are scheduled at the James Pedas Communication Center for the next two weeks. These are the first in a series of Pedas Center events during the 2015-16 academic year devoted to media literacy. The presentations are in the Stamm Lecture Hall. More events on a wide variety of communication topics are being planned. Admission is free, and all faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to attend these presentations.

• At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, Assistant Professor of Communication Ross Nugent, M.F.A., will present "A Blink of the Eye: Mechanics and Meaning in Film and Video Editing." The presentation will provide a historical overview of cinematic editing, from the early days of motion pictures to today’s use of mobile devices to capture and edit images. Nugent will show how editing images is a critical element of time-based media language and explore the psychological effects of editing related to the creation of meaning in narrative and documentary films.
• At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, adjunct Professor Susan Richards, M.A., will host Presidential Debate Night. A live screening of the third Republican presidential debate will begin at 8 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., Richards will present a primer (and distribute materials), on speaking styles, rhetorical strategies and tactics, and other insights into political debates from an academic perspective. After the debate, attendees will be invited to make comments and ask questions about the candidates' debate performance. Questions and answers will be limited to communication questions; specific policies, political positions, political campaign strategies, etc., will not be included. Later in the academic year, a similar event will be held for the Democratic presidential debate.

Information Technology internet and network service

IT will be performing maintenance activities during fall break. 

• From 6-8 a.m. Monday, IT will upgrade the software on the Internet firewall. This will result in intermittent Internet outages during this time with full Internet service restored by 8 a.m. From 8 a.m. to noon, IT will update the software that controls the wireless network infrastructure. This may cause brief periods (less than 10 minutes) where wireless networking is not available.
• From 6-8 a.m. Tuesday, IT will perform server maintenance. This maintenance consists of installing patches on all of our servers, which will require the servers to be rebooted. Outages for each server should be less than 10 minutes each and all patching will be completed by 8 a.m. From 1-3 p.m., IT will modify the connection to the Moodle provider at their request. This will result in Moodle being unavailable during some of this time. Full access to Moodle will be restored by 3 p.m.

Comment: Marla, Kim and the entire Housekeeping staff have continually gone the extra mile taking care of Thiel's facilities. They do not hesitate to help wherever and whenever needed—day or night. Homecoming was just one example of the care they take preparing the campus for visitors.
