Twelve Thiel College students attend Second Annual Business Summit and Career Expo hosted by alumnus

Standing, from left to right: Delvon Stevens, Sam Passafiume, Michael Russo, Quenlan Dunn, hosts Monica and Miguel Mancebo '77, Kanyonon Kpou, Keith Stover, Gregory Johnson, Kehinde Olugbade, Jaden Nozicka and Futoshi Sasagawa. Seated on the left is Kristi Guritza and on the right is Summer Wark.

Miguel Mancebo '77 and his wife, Monica, hosted their second annual SCIP Business Summit and Career Expo on Feb. 7 at JP Morgan Chase's Park Avenue offices. The event was attended by 350 promising young professionals from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including 12 students from Thiel College.

After establishing a human resources and recruiting firm on Manhattan's Madison Avenue, the Mancebos registered a nonprofit company, The Selective Corporate Internship Program (SCIP), to help young professionals prepare for careers in corporate America. Since SCIP's creation in 1999, the couple have since seen legions of young people advance from high school to college and on to M.B.A.s, J.D.s and positions of power and prestige in some of the country's top-tier corporations. Many program alumni return to help the Mancebos stage their business summit events for the next generation of corporate leaders.

This year recruiters attended from JP Morgan Chase, Thomson Reuters, Bank of America, The New York Times, Deloitte, Titus & Mitchell, Colgate Palmolive, and New York Life, among others. The event began with a keynote address by the vice chancellor of the 500,000-student City University of New York System and included networking opportunities, panel discussions, break-out sessions and some real-live recruiting as some Thiel students were tapped for back-room interviews. Thiel student participation would not have been possible without the support of the Business and Accounting Deptartment, the Thiel Admissions office, the Office of Student Life and the Career Development Center. Thiel staffers attending were Admissions Counselor Angella Bradley and Associate Dean for Career Development Martin Black.

The event will take place in mid-October next year. Students interested in attending should contact the Career Center.

Special Notes

Great Colleges to Work For survey

For the fourth consecutive year, Thiel College is participating in The Chronicle Great Colleges to Work For program. The program is designed to recognize institutions that have built great workplaces. Part of the program involves an employee survey distributed to all Thiel employees. The survey was designed specifically for higher education. All employees should have received an invitation to take part in this survey.

Results of the survey will be factored into the overall scoring process that will ultimately determine the institutions recognized. After The Chronicle publishes the findings this July, Thiel College will receive a report that summarizes responses to the survey questions. This is a confidential survey. Employee participation and honest feedback are critical to the assessment process.

To ensure the confidentiality of your responses, your survey will be processed by Modern Think LLC, a research and consulting firm focusing on workplace excellence. Thiel College will not be given any information that would enable the institution to trace survey information back to individuals

Contact Vice President of Student Life Mike McKinney or Director of Human Resources Jennifer Clark, or visit The Chronicle website if you have any questions.
