Haller Enterprise Institute The Haller Enterprise Institute recognizes successful student business owners who best exemplify the entrepreneur spirit and have successfully started his or her own business. The Fall 2007 Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Paul J. Sargent '08, Owner, Sargent's Textbook Spot. Paul buys and sells textbooks to Thiel and other local college students. Mainly online, the company also has representatives on campuses including Thiel. Last year Paul grossed $26,000 with his textbook business. He is a double major in Business Administration and International Business. Upon graduation, Paul plans on moving to Prague in the Czech Republic to attend graduate school and looks forward to interviewing with Nissan.
The award is presented in memory of L. McClure "Mac" Lanning '30. Mac served on the Haller Institute Advisory Board since its inception in 1983 until his death in May 2002. Mac was a cheerleader for Thiel's Entrepreneurship program. He had a truly unique ability to instill the entrepreneurial spirit in Thiel's young business people. The award was created to keep Mac's enthusiasm alive and to recognize those students who have captured it.
