Entrepreneur of the Year 2001

 

Henry StickneyThroughout his career, Mr. Henry E. "Hank" Stickney's entrepreneurial interests have focused on the pharmaceutical and medical industry as well as various other business ventures. Currently, Mr. Stickney owns a florist shop, a radio station, a dinner theater, a satellite TV movie company, and a telephone company. Recently however, Mr. Stickney has turned his attention to his first love - sports. He is CEO of Mandalay Sports Entertainment which owns and operates 3 Minor League Teams located in Las Vegas, Nevada; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Dayton, Ohio. In 2001, Ernst & Young presented Mr. Stickney with the Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist Award in the Dayton/Miami Valley for his work in bringing baseball to Ohio. Mr. Stickney is also attempting to purchase additional teams in various leagues throughout the United States. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Baseball as well as the League Executive Committees of the professional sports franchises he manages and owns. In addition, he owns the Rancho Cucamonga franchise in the California League, which was selected by Baseball America as the outstanding Class "A" Franchise of 1997.

Mr. Stickney's career began as a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air force commanding many special units from Europe to Asia. His areas of expertise during an impressive military career included intelligence collection efforts, government negotiations, and foreign liaison work including the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art computer system which currently performs language translation functions for the entire U.S. government.

In 1978 he founded and served as president of Western Medical Specialties, one of the first national providers of specialized home health care. In 1986, INC. Magazine named Mr. Stickney as "The Entrepreneur of the Year".

Following a sale to Caremark, Inc. in 1986, Mr. Stickney founded Reimbursement Dynamics, Inc. which is a medical consulting firm specializing in developing reimbursement strategies for newly approved drugs and medical devices entering the marketplace.

Mr. Stickney received his under graduate education at Case-Western University, Cleveland, Ohio, majoring in accounting. He earned his MBA in finance from Boston University, Massachusetts in 1976
