Carl A. Hoffman, Jr. '69, DO CCHP (Doctor of Osteopathy and Certified Correctional Health Professional) is Corporate Medical Director and President of PrimeCare Medical, Inc. and PrimeCare Medical of West Virginia, Inc., the largest providers of health care to county jails in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. As a guest speaker at Thiel College's Business Honors Seminar, Dr. Hoffman gave valuable business insight and pertinent career advice to current Thiel students.
A 1969 graduate of Thiel College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a 1974 graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, Hoffman began his career as an active family and general practitioner in Harrisburg, PA. During this time he also served as medical director for the state correctional institution in Camp Hill and worked as a physician for an area high school.
When changes occurred in the correctional institution's medical system, Dr. Hoffman refocused his work in the correctional health profession and by 1985 founded PrimeCare Medical. PrimeCare Medical, Inc. is a premier provider of Contracted Health Care Services in the correctional setting. PrimeCare manages jails, prisons, and juvenile detention centers throughout the Northeast United States. They offer a customized medical program that includes medical, mental health, dental, pharmacy, laboratory, nursing services, etc.
Today, PrimeCare operates in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and New Hampshire. It has more than 400 employees, provides internships and co-ops and is a multi-million dollar business. PrimeCare Medical has on staff a team of professionals in correctional medicine, corrections and business. With this wide variety of experience PrimeCare Medical is capable of providing to all its contracts a professional consulting team to address any or all components within a correctional setting.
Dr. Hoffman has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations including Pennsylvania State Bank board member, American Osteopathic Association, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, Beta Beta Beta National Biological Society and past Director of Medical Education at Community General Osteopathic. He is a lecturer for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Recently Dr. Hoffman was elected to the Thiel College Alumni Board of Directors. Hoffman and his wife reside in Harrisburg, PA.
