7th Through 9th Grades
Courses for youth who are entering 7th-9th grade in the fall of
2008. Youth participate in the same four, one-hour and fifteen
minute classes each day. Every effort will be made to accommodate
your selections on a first-come, first-serve basis. We retain
the right to cancel any class that has less than six campers by the
deadline of June 27.
Class 1 class choices (9:00-10:15 a.m.)
Class 2 class choices (10:20-11:35 a.m.)
Class 3 class choices (12:00-1:15 p.m.)
Class 4 class choices (1:20-2:35 p.m.)
CLASS 1: 9:00-10:15 a.m.
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A GAME SHOW CONTESTANT!
Campers will get to experience playing many popular game shows. These games will include Jeopardy, 1 vs. 100, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and more. Students will also have the opportunity to design and instruct their own game.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH FARE·
Learn how to turn an egg into a delicious feast. Learn to make pancakes artistically. Learn the importance of breakfast and its nutritional value. Learn to create healthy salads, creative sandwiches and personalized pizzas. Learn how to garnish your dishes with fruit and vegetables.

COOL CHEMISTRY
Fake blood, silly putty, bouncy balls, invisible ink - these are just some of the cool things you can make using everyday materials and a little chemistry. Come and explore the exciting world of chemistry and you just might get slimed!

DRAWING
Watching television shows like Tom and Jerry deal with different drawing techniques. From cartooning, to realism, even to modern drawing, campers will focus on bringing shapes and objects forward and even back.

MICROSOFT OFFICE
In this class, you’ll
learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Begin by creating,
editing, saving, and printing all types of documents in Microsoft Word. Have
fun with Excel and learn the basics to create, edit, save and print
spreadsheets. Create effective Power Point presentations for
school and for your family, and make exciting slide shows with text,
sounds, and animation.

SOCCER
Students will learn the fundamental soccer skills of passing, control, dribbling, heading and shooting through the use of drills, fun games and team activities. All students need to bring their own tennis shoes. Instructor: Mr. Andy Hoggarth
TAKING CARE OF YOUR BRAIN
Have you hugged your brain today? In this class you will learn about this three pound organ and how to keep it healthy and happy. Students will learn and apply basic principles of psychology such as using humor to combat stress, and also what happens when mental illness occurs. Learn to take care of your brain and it will take care of you!

TENNIS
Match point...Bring your
racket and enjoy the sun while learning the fundamentals of tennis. You
will enjoy learning about beginning skills to the playing of matches. Class
is limited to 10 campers.

CLASS 2: 10:20-11:35 a.m.
ACOUSTIC GUITAR
This class is for
those who want to learn how to play the acoustic guitar or refresh
their memory. We will play games to help us read and play music, as well as learn the parts of the guitar. By the time
you leave, you'll be able to create music! Campers must provide
their own acoustic guitar.

BASKETBALL
Students will learn the fundamentals of ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense. Students will learn fundamentals through fun activities which consist of instruction, drills, and games. Students will need to bring their own tennis shoes.

COLONIAL DAYS
Discover the colonial period. Research customs and occupations. Build a colonial town, as well as understand the formation of the colonies and reasons for coming to America. Make colonial toys, butter, maps, cross-stitch samplers, quilts, and play colonial games.

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
Ever have dreams of being on television? Maybe you’ve always wanted to work behind the scenes? Work in groups to plan, shoot, capture, and edit video footage. Your final product will be a short video clip in the format of your choice. Class size is limited to 12 students.

INTERNET AND WEB PAGE DESIGN
Imagine
that you are starting a business creating and selling specialty items
on the World Wide Web. Your first job would be to create a web
page to spread the word about your new business. In this class,
campers will discover the wonders of the Internet, as well as, create
a basic web page that will advertise their new business adventure.

LIFE OF AN ATHLETE
Students will learn the basics of living a healthy lifestyle through the use of classroom based projects and basic circuit training. Discover the world of a professional athlete.

PAINTING
Many different world known painters have succeeded just by the use of line and color. In this class, campers will learn how to use different techniques with splatter painting, realistic painting, pointalism, and other art types. They will enjoy the use of different colors and textures with paints like water color and acrylic.

THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (GETTYSBURG)
This course will be an in depth study of the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War. Big ideas that will be discussed are, but not limited to: Generals, Battle tactics, Military apparatus and weapons, Geography of Gettysburg, and the cause of the battle.

CLASS 3: 12:00-1:15 p.m.
BASIC MANDARIN CHINESE
Come learn about the Chinese culture and language! You’ll learn about Chinese holidays, how to pronounce, write, and speak the Chinese language.

BRAIN TEASERS
This class will make you think outside of the box, by challenging you intellectually. You will get to investigate, explore, construct, and engage in order to find the solution to several problems/situations. Instructor: Mrs. Mary Kate Agona
CFK NEWSPAPER
Together with your fellow campers, create the CFK Newspaper. Campers will take pictures of different classes and write articles that correspond with each class. Students will also gain the experience of designing and laying out the paper.

EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT ART FORMS
Campers will enjoy the opportunity to work with their hands to sculpt, design, make a collage, and many other forms of art. This class will teach the campers how art can have no limits and no faults.

FRISBEE GOLF
Learn to play Frisbee golf, as well as the rules and regulations, as you play Thiel’s challenging course. Participants need to have at least one Frisbee, but having at least three of different weights is recommended.

MAGIC
Perhaps Harry Houdini or
David Copperfield began their careers in a College for Kids camp...they
had to start somewhere! Here is your opportunity to start by
learning the basics of magic. Campers will work with cups, balls,
and rubber bands. They will do card tricks and pseudo-psychometry
as well as newspaper and rope magic. Campers may perform some
of their magic on the last day!

MARTIAL ARTS
In martial arts you will learn the meaning of Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Goshin Jutsu. Your instructor will teach you basic moves so you can decide whether you want to pursue martial arts after College for Kids. Instructor: Mr. Marshall Norman
IT'S PLAY TIME
Calling all directors! Let
your imagination go wild as you put on a production. This includes
a lot of teamwork, picking roles, and making props and costumes. The
actor in you will come out as we play games and work on your production.

3D ARTS AND CRAFTS
From jewelry, to clay modeling, to making sculptures, campers will enjoy the opportunity to engage in different art forms. This class will allow the you mind to process and invent by using your imagination.

BASIC BALLOON SCULPTURE
Learn the art of twisting balloons into
animals, shapes, and hats! Safety tips will be provided and must be
observed. Hand-pumps will be provided so you don't have to do all the work.
This class is not for those with a latex allergy.

Write poetry, rhyme, and create your own short story complete with illustrations.

CSI: CFK
Come experience life as a crime scene tech. Can you solve the case? (This class is pending due to FBI scheduling, so make sure you choose a second class.)
FUN DESSERTS & CREATIVE DECORATING·
Learn to create fun desserts using a variety of popular ingredients. You will be taught the importance of planning and gathering ingredients as well as the appropriate mixing techniques. Several decorating ideas will be taught emphasizing individual creativity.

HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES
This course is designed to explore the history of video games systems. Going far back as the ataris and as recent as the wii. There will be an intense dicussion on how video games have shaped society in the past and today. Students will be able to discover how video games are created along with the gaming systems.
