I like to think of myself as a “student champion,” and since arriving on campus in July 2009, I’ve worked hard to develop programs and initiatives that will enhance the student experience here at Thiel. One of those that I’m particularly proud of is the Thiel Commitment—a new initiative that showcases the advantages a Thiel education offers before, during and after your undergraduate experience. There are so many exciting aspects of this initiative, but one that is unique to Thiel is the brand new ninth-semester tuition waiver for qualified students who want to take advantage of extra opportunities during college. That’s right—you can study abroad, change your major or do an extended internship without the added pressure of still graduating in eight semesters! Other facets of the Thiel Commitment include expanded career services, a 60 percent tuition discount for graduates seeking to add new skills and knowledge to their degrees, and a co-curricular transcript and an e-Portfolio system, which will allow you to demonstrate in tangible ways to future employers and professional schools what they’ve learned and accomplished. But the Thiel Commitment isn’t the only thing happening at Thiel. We’ve added five new varsity sports (men’s & women’s lacrosse, men’s & women’s tennis and men’s volleyball), a marching band and a new major in youth ministry—and new ideas come across my desk every day. It is an exciting time to be at Thiel College!
