Thiel issues a mid-term grade report and a final grade report each semester. For concurrent enrollment students, the mid-term grade report has special significance as the participating high school will transcript that grade as the 1st and 3rd nine week grade period grades. Final semester grades from Thiel College are transcribed as the student's 2nd and 4th nine week grade period grades. Since funding for this program comes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the federal No Child Left Behind Act, courses offered by Thiel College, in this program, must meet the objectives of No Child Left Behind. Freshman-level courses in English, foreign languages, mathematics, art, history, government and science are usually funded. Students desiring coursework in other subject areas may consider entering our Thiel High School Scholars program. Thiel College offers informational meetings at participating schools each spring or late winter. The office of educational outreach will provide each school with a specific list of courses for both the fall and spring semesters for the following year. Students are parents are informed about the program and guidance counselors work with students to determine if Thiel coursework could fit into their next year's schedule. Students then register for courses by completing designated registration form and their college schedule is mailed to their homes. It is also important for students to decide which courses they plan to take in the spring semester because the school district must request enough grant money to accommodate students for both the fall and spring semesters. Spring semester registration takes place in early November. The office of educational outreach will work with each guidance counselor to determine the appropriate schedule for each student. Which Local School Districts Participate in this Program? For the school year 2007-2008, Thiel College welcomes students from Jamestown, Greenville, Reynolds and Commodore Perry School Districts. We are also seeking relationships with other surrounding school districts at this time. Questions regarding concurrent enrollment programs can be directed to Mr. John Rindy, Dean of Educational Outreach at 724-589-2181, or at jrindy@thiel.edu. |
