First-Year Student Orientation > 2011 Orientatation Schedule

Friday, August 26

9:00am – 1:00pm	Check-In	Gymnasium Parking Lot

Resident Assistants (RA’s), football team, and other campus community members are here to welcome you and answer your questions. If you are having trouble setting up your computer, phone or television there will be a member of the Information Technology department in the buildings during this time.

9:00am – 1:00pm	HMSC Activities	HMSC

The local banks will be stationed in the Student Center hallway for account registration. The bookstore will also be open for browsing, buying books and supplies. All books ordered through the Thiel College Bookstore Web site can be picked up at this time.

9:00am – 2:30pm	Laptop Distribution & Training	Bly Hall
10:00am-1:00pm	Lunch Tent	Residence Hall Quad
1:30-2:15pm	Commuter Student Check-In	Sawhill Georgian Room, HMSC
1:00pm-1:30pm	Parents meet with President, Dean of Students, and Dean of Academic Affairs	Lutheran Heritage Room HMSC

Make sure you dress in jeans and a t-shirt. You will be receiving your Gold Rush shirt for the class picture.

2:30pm	Student Matriculation Line Up & Class Photo	Gymnasium

This is the first moment to show your Tomcat spirit with wearing your Gold Rush shirt for your class picture. You will then be taking a memorable walk up Brother Martin’s Walk to the Passavant Center; you will travel the same path upon your graduation.

3:30pm	Opening Convocation/Matriculation	Passavant Center
4:30pm	Welcome Picnic	Center of Campus Lawn

Students and Parents: we invite you to attend the Welcome Picnic to mingle with different faculty and staff members present.

6:30pm	Parents Depart	Individual Residence Halls

Meet the members living on your floor, Resident Assistants (RAs), and Resident Director (RD). Following the meeting head to the lobby for time to relax and enjoy a late night snack.

Saturday, August 27

9:00-9:20am	Welcome/Introduction to FYS Groups	Passavant Center
9:30-10:20am	Meet with Peer Leaders	FYS Classroom

You will head to your FYS classroom with your Peer Leaderr. You will go over class schedule, the ins and outs of Thiel College, and get any immediate questions answered.

10:30-11:30am	Bag Lunch with Faculty from Majors	Pick up in AC lobby

You will get the chance to learn more about the major you are considering, meet the faculty members in the departments and for exploratory students speak with members of The Learning Commons (TLC).

11:40am-1:30pm	Meet with FYS instructors	FYS Classroom
Your class will write what you believe should be in this year’s class resolution and choose a representative to write the final draft.

Be dressed to head to the graffiti party following the meeting. You will be supplied with a white t-shirt and a marker.

9:30pm-Midnight	Graffiti Party	HMSC Terrace

Join your classmates on the terrace of the student center. Sign your name and get to know each other! There will also be a late night snack available.

Sunday, August 28

Bring your schedule with you, a tour of the classrooms will be given and then a scavenger hunt of traditions on Thiel's campus.
