NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION – Friday, August 26, 2011

CLASSES BEGIN – Classes begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011

STUDENT PERSONAL PROPERTY – Your personal belongings are a private responsibility. Please check with your family’s homeowners’ policy to see if your personal belongings are insured while you are at college. Thiel College does not assume responsibility for your personal belongings.

MICROWAVE OVENS, WATER BEDS, REFRIGERATORS – no microwave ovens, waterbeds or refrigerators over 4.5 (approx.) cubic feet will be permitted. If found, a fine will be levied and the item will be held until it is removed from campus. A microwave oven is provided in each residence hall.

ROOM FURNITURE AND FURNISHINGS – each student is responsible for a set of furnishings in their assigned room. No furniture is permitted to be removed from any residence hall room.

ROOM MEASUREMENTS – if you are interested in bringing carpet, the following is a guideline for approximate carpet size:

- Flo West:  8’ x 8’             
- Sawhill:  9’ x 14’               

- Harter:  11’ x 12’  

- Hodge: 11'x12'                                                   

                       
(Please note: These measurements are approximate. If purchasing larger pieces of carpet it may need to be cut. Also, the furniture in Flo West Hall is affixed to the walls and cannot be moved around in the room.) 

LINENS – All beds are twin extra long (80”). Provide your own sheets, bedspreads, pillows, towels and washcloths.Linen purchase system available.  See http://www.thiel.edu/reslife/bed-linens-program.htm

POSTAL SERVICES – All students are assigned an on-campus post office box upon arrival.

Note:  Mail sent to you at Thiel should be addressed as follows:

Your post office box number is assigned upon arrival at Thiel. You can pick up your key in the college
 post office, located in the Howard Miller Student Center on August 26.
