GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College will host the internationally acclaimed British vocal ensemble VOCES8 at Thiel College’s David Johnson Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. Feb. 9, as part of the College’s Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series.

Established worldwide as premier a cappella vocalists, the performers of VOCES8 tour extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia. The ensemble performs a repertory from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary commissions and arrangements. With an ongoing program of recordings and live broadcasts, VOCES8 is heard regularly on international television and radio, including the BBC and ClassicFM.

The concert, titled, “VOCES8: A Choral Tapestry” will explore vocal arrangements spanning five centuries. Including anthems and motets from the English Chapel Royal and the Sistine Chapel in Rome, as well as traditional folk songs and spirituals, the program accompanies the group’s popular album release from 2012 of the same name.

The performance is free and open to the public. Thiel College is the first stop on VOCES8’s nine-date U.S. tour.

The Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series began in the fall of 2007 and is made possible through the generosity of LaVonne H’16 and the late Glen R. Johnson H’88 in honor of their late daughter. Glen, who was chairman emeritus of the Thiel College Board of Trustees, and LaVonne were honored in 2012 with the William A. Passavant Distinguished Service Award, which is given to those who provide “meaningful, longtime service to the Lutheran Church and Lutheran Education, including continuity of leadership, exemplary character and impact on shaping the Lutheran tradition.” Con Spirito concerts are performed in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, dedicated in 2006 and named in honor of the Johnsons’ late son.
