GREENVILLE, Pa.—The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra "swings" into Thiel College's Passavant Center, at 8 p.m. Dec. 2. The Glenn Miller Orchestra, famous for such tunes as "In the Mood," "Pennsylvania 6500," and "Moonlight Serenade" became popular during the "swing era" of the 1940s, and remains one of the most sought after big bands in the world.

The 18-member big band has performed in all 50 United States, as well as throughout Europe, Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Guam, the Philippines, South and Central America, and Japan. Consistently performing since 1956, the Glenn Miller Orchestra has played an average of 300 live dates a year, all around the world.

“This is a unique opportunity to see and hear an authentically presented slice of American history and experience a very important part of our country’s musical heritage. Jazz and swing are uniquely American forms of music that paved the way for later styles, including many of the genres we enjoy today,” Thiel College Director of Bands Andrew Erb said. “I am thrilled that we have the chance to see this group live—in concert—on our own campus.”

Advance tickets are available for the event by calling the college at 724-589-2282 or visiting Marks Music (50 N Buhl Farm Dr., Hermitage). Tickets will be available prior to the performance at the door. General admission is $20 and $15 for seniors.
