Murphy, Flory named November Students of the Month

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces Morgan Murphy ’17, of New Castle, Pa., and Nathan Flory ’17, of Export, Pa., as its November Students of the Month.

Murphy is a biology major. She is involved with biology and greek leadership honor societies, and Sigma Kappa sorority. She is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, the Health Professions Institute, the running club and the TC Spirit Squad.

She does work with the Adopt-a-Highway program and plans to attend physician assistant school after graduation.

“Thiel College has given me the opportunity to learn from amazing staff and faculty,” Murphy said. “They have made me feel like an individual, rather than a number, and are always there to assist and help us achieve our best. I am extremely grateful for the remarkable opportunities and experiences I have been granted during my time at Thiel College.”

She is a 2013 graduate of Shenango Junior/Senior High School and is the daughter of Wendy and Howard Murphy, of New Castle, Pa.

Flory is an English major with a minor in religion. He became the first Thiel College student to study at Oxford University through a six-week study abroad program in the summer of 2016. He is a member of the Lutheran Student Movement, Dietrich Honors Institute, The Thiel Choir, and marching and concert bands. He is a member of English, music, and religion and theology honorary societies. He is a resident assistant, a member of Alpha Chi national honor society and the local Les Lauriers scholarship leadership and service honorary organization. Flory is the co-founder and president of the Ultimate Frisbee Club

Flory hopes to pursue a Master of Divinity degree after graduation.

“During my time at Thiel, I have been able to establish myself in the community and gain self-confidence that I may go into the world and make a worthwhile contribution,” Flory said. “I have grown both academically and personally here and hope to carry what I have learned into the future.”

Flory, a 2013 graduate of Franklin Regional Senior High School, is the son of Tom and Suzy Flory, of Export, Pa.

The Student of the Month is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College, with only about six students each semester earning the honor.
