GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College fraternity Kappa Sigma begins its longstanding military friendly philanthropy Monday with a direct connection to the armed services as one the organization’s members is on active duty in Afghanistan.
Kappa Sigma’s Military Heroes Campaign begins Monday. Kappa Sigma fraternity brother Dustin Slomainy left in the fall of 2016 for his third deployment with the U.S. Army.
“Men and women of this country risk their lives every day and do—what is in my opinion—the hardest job in America.” Philanthropy Chair of the Xi-Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Sigma Elijah Sklack ’20 said. “This event helps raise awareness for what these wonderful people do for this country and, also, raises money that goes to the Military Heroes Campaign where it helps both veterans and active service men in any way possible.”
Sklack, of Aliquippa, is a 2016 graduate of Hopewell High School. He and his fraternity brothers have scheduled several events throughout the week.
The week of events will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday with a 21-gun salute by members of Greenville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374 at the flag courtyard in front of Roth Hall.
On Tuesday, Kappa Sigma members will conduct fundraising throughout the day on campus.
Other events being scheduled include a community service project Wednesday at the Greenville American Legion Post 140, 278 Main Street; a display of relics and memorabilia from World War I and II from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday in Weyers Lounge of the Howard Miller Student Center, and a chili cook-off on Friday. Assistant Professor of Computer Science Brian Bradshaw, D.Sc., is scheduled to discuss his experiences from a 20-year career in the U.S. Army Special Operations. His tours of duty included NORAD/USNORTHCOM, Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
Donations for the Military Heroes Campaign will be accepted at all events.

Kappa Sigma established A Greater Cause Foundation to support the charitable endeavors of the undergraduate chapters of the fraternity. The foundation’s principal program is the Military Heroes Campaign.
Created in 2007, the Military Heroes Campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the United States and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated more than $1 million to non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of service men and women and those wounded in combat.
