GREENVILLE, Pa.—Recent Thiel College graduates Ashley Dolan (above) and Ali House have been selected as members of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) softball senior all-star team, which will participate in an exhibition doubleheader against the 2014 USA Softball Women’s National Team in July.
The event, presented by West Virginia Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) and the Greater Morgantown Convention and Vistors Bureau, will take place Thursday, July 3 at 6 p.m. at Hawley Field in Morgantown, W.Va. Hawley Field has been the home of West Virginia University’s baseball team since 1971.
“I have been playing against and with these [PAC] athletes since I was young,” Dolan said. “They’re all great ball players, and it is very flattering to be recognized with them on this team. I’m excited to be competing against the USA National Team.”
Dolan was a three-time All-PAC selection, earning first team honors as a sophomore and second team recognition as a junior and senior. During her career at Thiel, Dolan recorded 162 hits, the second most in program history, and 80 RBIs, the third most in program history.
Dolan owned the eighth best batting average in the PAC during the 2014 regular season (.363) and tied for eighth in hits (41). She also received the Top Tomcat Award at the Thiel College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) Annual Senior Student-Athlete Awards Banquet in April.
House was an All-PAC second team selection in 2012 as a pitcher. The right-hander went 6-3 with a save and owned the fourth-best earned run average in the conference (2.24). She played in right field her senior season, collecting the fifth most hits on the team (28) while scoring nine runs and recording eight RBIs.
“It is an honor to be chosen to play in this game,” said House. “I couldn’t ask for a better way to end my softball career. The fact that I get to share this experience with one of my best friends, Ashley Dolan, means the world to me. I am also glad that my parents will be there, like they always have been.”
Dolan and House were both members of the 2012 Thiel squad that played in the championship game of the PAC Championship Tournament.
16 senior members of PAC member institutions will make up the all-star softball roster. Van Zanic, director of athletics and head softball coach at Geneva College, will serve as the team’s head coach. Zanic will be assisted by Jan Forsty, Bethany College associate director of athletics and head softball coach, and Lou Giachetti, Waynesburg University head softball coach.
In addition to the doubleheader, the PAC squad will also participate in the USA Softball Player Clinic, which is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2 at Hawley Field.
Individual general admission tickets for the doubleheader on July 3 will be available for $15. VIP seating is available for $20 while children under age five will be admitted free of charge. An autograph session for all ticket holders is scheduled at the conclusion of the doubleheader.
26 athletes accepted invitations to the 2014 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp, which is scheduled to take place June 8-19. Those 26 will compete in a series of practices and exhibition games in hopes of making the final 17-player roster that will compete for Team USA throughout the summer. The final roster will be announced on the USA Softball website on June 22.
