GREENVILLE, Pa.—Two members of the Thiel College Class of 2013 earned valedictorian and salutatorian honors at the 139th Commencement Ceremony, which was held on May 5 at 2 p.m. in the College’s William A. Passavant Memorial Center.
One student with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, Emily Whipple of Rochester, Pa., earned valedictorian honors for 2013 and Caitlin Ferry of Brookville, Pa. was named salutatorian.
Whipple graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and departmental honors in English and education. She also earned the Dean’s Key and Student of the Month honors during her senior year.
Ferry graduated summa cum laude with a 3.97 grade point average and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication sciences & disorders with departmental honors. She also is a recipient of the Dean’s Key and Student of the Month honors.

Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.8 - 4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.60-3.79; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.4-3.59. The Dean’s Key is awarded to those students who made the Dean's List during all eight semesters at Thiel.
