Soprano Layla Claire to Perform at Thiel College

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College presents world-renowned soprano, Layla Claire, in concert at the David Johnson Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Layla Claire is a regular soloist with the world’s leading orchestras.

In recital, Claire has appeared at Weill Hall/Carnegie Hall, Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and as a featured artist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Summer Recital Series. A 2012 graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Program, she scored her first European success in a new Vincent Boussard production of Mozart’s early La Finta Giardiniera at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. In 2010, Claire became the first recipient of The Hildegard Behrens Foundation Award and in 2008 she received the Mozart Prize at the Wilhel Stenhammar International Music Competition and was a Queen Elisabeth Competition Laureate. Layla Claire is the 13th concert of Thiel’s Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series, which began in fall 2007. Con Spirito presents concerts each year, featuring top chamber music performers from around the world. The series was created in honor of the late daughter of Dr. Glen Johnson H’88, Thiel College Board of Trustees chairman emeritus, and his wife, LaVonne, generous friends of the college. The home of the Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series is the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, dedicated in 2006 and named in honor of the Johnsons’ late son.
