GREENVILLE, Pa.—Killian Riley has been named the head coach of the Thiel College men’s soccer team, as announced by Director of Athletics Jack Leipheimer ‘74.
Riley becomes head coach of Thiel’s men’s soccer team after serving one season as a volunteer assistant for the men’s and women’s soccer teams. Riley replaces Chris Limle, who left Thiel to become the head coach of the Muskingum University men’s soccer team.
“I am very excited to be back and continue building what I started last season,” Riley said.
Limle, a Muskingum University graduate, and Riley guided Thiel’s men’s soccer team to a 5-12-1 record in 2013. The Tomcats played in seven one-goal games last season, earning three wins. Limle and Riley coached one All-PAC performer a season ago, Rory Duncan, and worked together to produce an impressive 16-man 2014 recruiting class.
“We wish Chris Limle the best at his alma mater,” Leipheimer said. “At the same time we are pleased to have Killian on board and believe he will be able to continue the development that he and Chris started with the men’s soccer program last season.”
In addition to his volunteering for the men’s and women’s soccer team’s last season, Riley also served as an adjunct professor and house manager at Thiel.
Riley began serving as assistant men’s soccer coach at Amherst College this spring before becoming the head coach of Thiel’s men’s soccer team.
Prior to arriving at Thiel, Riley served as a graduate assistant for Ottawa University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams from 2011-13. He helped lead the Ottawa University women’s soccer team to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Tournament Championship and an NAIA Championship Tournament berth in 2011. He earned his master’s degree from Ottawa University in 2013.
Riley earned his bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University in 2011. He was part of the 2010 Heidelberg soccer team, which went 14-4-2 overall and won the program’s first ever Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season title.
Riley has more than five years of soccer coaching experience and is certified through the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
The Tomcats will kick off the 2014 season when they host Medaille College at Alumni Stadium on Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
