Leipheimer appointed to NCAA DIII football committee

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College Director of Athletics Jack Leipheimer ’74 has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division III Football Committee. His term of service on the committee begins immediately and will continue through September 1, 2017, when he will be eligible for reappointment.

The Division III National Football Committee is made up of eight members, including four coaches and four administrators. As a member of the national committee, Leipheimer will monitor all Division III teams during the regular season, identify teams that deserve consideration for the national championship playoff bracket and help select the field of 32 teams.

“I am very honored for this most recent opportunity to serve the NCAA and to represent Thiel College and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference,” said Leipheimer.

Leipheimer has been the Director of Athletics at Thiel College since November 17, 2008. Prior to his appointment as Director of Athletics, Leipheimer spent 34 years as a coach, including 25 at the collegiate level, returning to Thiel in 2001 as the head football coach. While the head coach of the Tomcats, Leipheimer guiding the program back to national prominence, as his 2005 team won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 10-0 record. Thiel went on to defeat Johns Hopkins University in the opening round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

A former student-athlete, Leipheimer was a two-sport athlete at Thiel while pursuing his undergraduate degree. He was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at tight end on the football team, earning all-PAC accolades in 1973. He was also a three-year letter winner with the Tomcat baseball squad, playing both catcher and first base.
