The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra “swings” into Thiel College’s Passavant Center, at 8 p.m. Dec. 2. The Glenn Miller Orchestra, famous for such tunes as “In the Mood,” “Pennsylvania 6500,” and “Moonlight Serenade” became popular during the “swing era” of the 1940s, and remains one of the most sought after big bands in the world.
The Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride hosted one of the largest contingents of high school musicians the event has had for its Fifth Annual Thiel Band Day on Saturday with 137 students representing more than 50 high schools and three states.
Thiel College’s Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series will feature the internationally recognized and critically-acclaimed Brentano Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at the campus’s David Johnson Memorial Chapel.
The curtain rises on the Thiel Players’ spring production, “Mauritius” a play by Theresa Rebeck on April 4, 5, 11, 12 and 13 in the College’s William A. Robinson Theater.
The joyful sounds of the holiday season will ring through Thiel College’s William A. Passavant Center for the 61st year during the annual Thiel College Christmas Festival on Dec.8 at 4 p.m. The Christmas Festival is free and open to the public.
Thiel College presents world-renowned soprano, Layla Claire, in concert at the David Johnson Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Layla Claire is a regular soloist with the world’s leading orchestras.
Thiel College welcomes Pete Rydberg, Ph.D. as Assistant Professor of Performing Arts and Director of the Thiel Players, a position he will assume this fall. Prior to his appointment at Thiel College, Rydberg was an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Theatre and Music at Viterbo University, La Crosse, Wis.
The Thiel Choir is hitting the road for its annual spring tour in March. Each year, under the direction of Dr. Michael Bray, director of choral activities, and accompanied by pianist Kathryn A. Gray, the student choir performs a largely a cappella program in Lutheran churches throughout the eastern United States.
