Jan. 17 , 2011

GREENVILLE, PA—Thiel College’s Community Building Initiative continues this spring with inspiration for your New Year’s resolutions, sweet treats for your sweetie and a new look at fashion.

The events for this semester include:

  • The Biggest Loser on January 19 at 9 p.m. in the Lutheran Heritage Room—Amanda from “The Biggest Loser” season 9 will be on campus to kick-off the Thiel College Biggest Loser Challenge and provide motivation for those New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight and get healthy! Log sheets and competition rules will be handed out at the event. There will be a prize for the “biggest loser” of the challenge.
  • Chocolate 101 on Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the Sawhill-Georgian Room—Dr. Laurie Moroco, of Thiel’s Communication Department and owner of Haute Choklet (www.hautechoklet.com), will demonstrate how to make delicious chocolate treats for Valentine’s Day. Hands-on demonstrations and samples will be featured. Orders also can be placed for Haute Choklet products.
  • Wear It Out on March 24 at 8 p.m. in the Lutheran Heritage Room—Here’s your chance to take a new look at fashion and create a stunning outfit out of recyclable materials and win a fabulous prize! Make a skirt out of newspaper or VCR tape, design a necklace out of pop caps or make earrings out of light bulbs–whatever comes to mind! More details can be found at www.thiel.edu/cbi/calendar.htm. Deadline for entry is March 4, 2011. To register contact Jacquelyne Kinney at jkinney@thiel.edu

Rev. Dr. Derek Nelson, Thiel College’s campus pastor, will continue to offer a 30-minute worship service called “A Good Half-Hour” each Thursday at 12:30 p.m. beginning on January 20.

The Community Building Initiative, which is in its third year, is aimed at fostering a sense of community and togetherness on Thiel’s campus as well as between Thiel and the greater Greenville community.
