MAX BROD TRIO TO PERFORM AT THIEL COLLEGE

Performance part of Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series

Nov. 2, 2010

Max Brod Trio

GREENVILLE, PA – Thiel College presents the Max Brod Trio in concert at the David Johnson Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

In 2005, during European Union-sponsored and -initiated intercultural concerts, the members of the Max Brod Trio joined to form a permanent ensemble with a shared high degree of musical talent and taste. The group joins musicians of different nationalities and artistic contexts who each have distinguished international solo careers or chamber music expertise.

The trio’s chosen name—“Max Brod”—refers to the historic personality, a renowned Czech writer, composer and biographer/friend of Kafka, who combined German, Czech and Jewish culture. The trio continues this tradition and strives to provide an artistic contribution to intercultural exchange and as an arbiter for understanding through music.

The group’s members include Petr Matják (violin), Maximilian von Pfeil (cello) and Kerstin Strassurg (piano). The concert includes music by Franz Joseph Haydn, Ludwig Van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.

The Tower Brass Quintet is the seventh concert of Thiel’s Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series, which began in fall 2007. Con Spirito presents concerts each year, featuring top chamber music groups from across the country. The series was created in honor of the late daughter of Dr. Glen Johnson H’88, Thiel College Board of Trustees chairman emeritus, and his wife, LaVonne, generous friends of the college. The home of the Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series is the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, dedicated in 2006 and named in honor of the Johnsons’ late son.

For more information about the concert, please contact the Thiel College Office of Special Events at 724-589-2240.
