. TOWER BRASS QUINTET TO PERFORM AT THIEL COLLEGE Performance part of Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series March 23, 2010 .
The Tower Brass launched their international reputation in 1986 with a prize-winning performance at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary. Since then, the Tower Brass Quintet has concertized in 25 states and collaborated with several of the world's other premiere brass ensembles, including the London, Budapest, Annapolis and American Brass Quintets. Critics and presenters have consistently praised the group for the innovative nature of their concert repertoire, their superb musicianship and their engaging stage presence. Recently, the Tower Brass was named as most popular instrumental ensemble by the Lake Erie West People’s Choice Awards. The group’s members include Brian Bushong (trumpet), Larry Herman (trumpet), Daniel Saygers (trombone), David Saygers (tuba) and Bernice Schwartz (horn). The concert includes music by Duke Ellington, G. F. Handel and Eric Ewazen, among others. The Tower Brass Quintet is the sixth concert of Thiel’s Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series, which began in fall 2007. Con Spirito presents concerts each year, featuring top chamber music groups from across the country. The series was created in honor of the late daughter of Dr. Glen Johnson H’88, Thiel College Board of Trustees chairman emeritus, and his wife, LaVonne, generous friends of the college. The home of the Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series is the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, dedicated in 2006 and named in honor of the Johnsons’ late son. For more information about the concert, please contact the Thiel College Office of Special Events at 724-589-2240.
