GREENVILLE, PA—On Feb. 5, Thiel College education students spent time on “Study Island,” learning about state-of-the-art learning technology that they will use in their future classrooms. Dodi Smith, Study Island representative for western Pennsylvania, visited Dr. Doug Hazlett’s, chair of the education department, Integrated Instructional Systems class to demonstrate Study Island, a Web-based software program for K-12 students. The software provides computer-assisted instruction in reading and mathematics and is used by many school districts throughout the state and country.
“This opportunity gives our students the chance to learn about this important instructional tool that they will be using in their classrooms someday,” says Hazlett. “This kind of experience will be invaluable in both their student teaching and future job search.” .
