THIEL COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 2008 HOMECOMING SCHEDULE

September 10, 2008

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College invites all alumni, students, staff and friends of the college to share in the annual Homecoming 2008 celebration from Sept. 26 to 28.

The schedule of events for the weekend is as follows (events marked with an asterisk require reservations):

FRIDAY, SEPT. 26

 

8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. 

Alumni Registration—Friends of Art Gallery, Howard Miller Student Center (HMSC)
Alumni are invited to sign in and see who else is on campus. Alumni may also enter their business cards in a drawing to win prizes! Names will be drawn and awarded during the football game Saturday.  

8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.     

College Bookstore Open   

9:30 a.m. registration/10 a.m. shotgun start      

Blue-Gold Golf Scramble*—The Greens of Greenville (formerly Greenville Country Club)

$65 per person/$260 per foursome; includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes  

1-3 p.m.

Thiel Archives Open—Second Floor, Langenheim Memorial Library

Browse historic Thiel information and check out your era.

2 p.m.

Neuroscience Seminar—Academic Center, Room 201

Find our how our new program links biology, psychology and experiential learning in a fascinating field. Presenter: Dr. Jennifer Griffin, professor and department chair/co-program director.

Wine Tasting Open House*—Fellowship Hall of The Heritage at St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville

Members of the class of 1958 celebrate their 50th reunion; $15 per person

Alumni Awards Ceremony and Reception*—Lutheran Heritage Room, HMSC
Hors d’oeuvres and dessert; Class of 1958 Recognition and class gift presentation. The following awards will be presented Service to Thiel, Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni awards.

8 p.m.

Bonfire—Hodge/Sawhill Sand Volleyball Court

Hot dogs and cocoa available. Homecoming King and Queen will be honored.

Friends of Music Concert at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church—One Trinity Place, Greenville
Co-sponsored by the Friends of Music and Thiel College Guests Lecturer and Artist Series—performance by the Russian quartet Konevets. Free admission; goodwill offerings accepted.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 

9 a.m.-noon

Homecoming Football Game Kickoff —Alumni Stadium
Thiel Tomcats vs. Geneva Golden Tornadoes. Halftime: Presentation of the 1958 and 1983 football teams, the Homecoming Court and alumni prize drawings.

Post-Game Celebration —The Pavilion and Gallery Grille at the Greens of Greenville

4-6 p.m.

20th Annual Thiel Players Alumni Reunion—Home of Dr. William Robinson, #1 Hollywood Blvd., Greenville
Join Dr. Robinson for fun, merriment and his much-loved cheeseballs! 
 

4-11 p.m.

Carnival on the Quad and Pig Roast   
An evening of colorful fun with games, rides and carnival treats.  

6:30 p.m.

Alumni Party* —The Pavillion and Gallery Grille at the Greens of Greenville
Enjoy an evening of reuniting with classmates and friends. Class years ending in threes and eights celebrate special reunions this year, but ALL are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Class of 1983 25th Reunion Dinner*—Sawhill-Georgian Room, HMSC
Members of the class of 1983 will celebrate their 25th anniversary; $15 per person      

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 

10-11 a.m.

Homecoming Service—David Johnson Memorial Chapel
A continental breakfast will be available prior to the morning worship service at 11 a.m. Worship service with the Thiel College Choir; Service of Remembrance will include a reading of the Memorial Roster acknowledged by the Thiel Handbell Choir.
