GREENVILLE, Pa. – Richard Mitchell, professor emeritus of art at Youngstown State University, will be exhibiting his artwork at the Howard Miller Student Center’s Weyers-Sampson Gallery at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., from Sept. 12 to Oct. 12.
The show, titled “DeerSlayer and Other Recent Work,” consists of 31 shadow boxes that incorporate photography and found objects. Sometime shocking, often humorous, Mitchell’s boxes are playful and serious, challenging the viewer’s notion of what is real and what is not using photographs of observed scenes and children’s toys arranged like theatrical tableau to imply a narrative.
The Weyer’s Sampson Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m.
