GREENVILLE, Pa.—In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, two Thiel students and a professor will give a presentation on how to become a breast cancer advocate on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Academic Center, Room 127.
Connie Reinhart, associate professor of education and director of teacher education, and senior Laura Hardesty, an English/secondary certification major, and junior Annette Rodriguez, a history/secondary certification major, will lead the presentation. Hardesty and Rodriguez will discuss their experiences as advocates in Washington, D.C., during the National Breast Cancer Coalition Conference in May 2007, which they attended with Reinhart. The students had the opportunity to lobby on Capital Hill and talk to the senators and representatives from Pennsylvania.
Rodriguez wrote an article about her experience at the conference, “The Birth of a New Advocate,” which was recently published in the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation’s newsletter. The newsletter can be accessed at www.lindacreed.org.
This presentation is open to the public.
