GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College is hosting a First in Math® Regional Workshop for local math educators, grades 1 to 8, on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Academic Center, Room 235. An optional lunch will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the Sawhill-Georgian Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.
This workshop will present a complete overview of the First in Math® online program by Mark Losey, national director for the First in Math® online program and owner of the Pittsburgh-based Educational Technology Consultants, Inc., which provides on-site support for a variety of on-site educational technology applications. His workshop will include numerous strategies learned during his experience with his Educational Technology Consultants for the successful use of technology in K-12 schools.
"The Thiel College Department of Education is very happy that we can provide this resource to the area’s elementary and middle school teachers,” says Dr. Doug Hazlett, associate professor of education. “We believe that the First in Math® program has the potential to significantly improve students’ performance and attitudes toward math.”
First in Math® is an online program for elementary and middle school students that is based on the 24®GAME math series. The program includes fact practice, PSSA test-preparation modules, real-time assessments for teachers and administrators, and competition for students. More than 150,000 Pennsylvania students are expected to use the program this school year. More information about First in Math® can be found at www.firstinmath.com.
