GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College’s all-girls and coed cheer teams and dance team will be performing during half-time at the Cleveland Cavaliers versus New York Knicks game in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena on November 2, 2007.
The performance opportunity arose this summer when Regina Henderson, head cheerleading coach, submitted a short video of a Thiel routine to the Cavaliers organization. The committee chose Thiel from hundreds of submitted videos for a half-time performance.
“I am feeling very excited but a little nervous about performing at the Cavaliers game,” says Jamie Regna ’08. “I think this is an awesome opportunity and I know the whole team is pumped for it. We’ve never performed at a professional game before so I think this experience is going to be a great one!”
Team members will be performing their 2008 competition routines for the University Cheerleading Association and University Dance Collegiate Nationals (UCA/UDA) in January.
“Since we are preparing for UCA/UDA Nationals on January 17-21 at Disney World, it is important to use every opportunity of practice we can. This opportunity will be a determining factor in how well the teams will perform under a live, thousand-plus audience at competition,” says Henderson. “I know that they will be great.”
To help support the teams, the Office of Student Activities is taking a bus of 52 students to the game. While the game is sold out, tickets are still available for those wishing to attend for $25 through a program being led by the dance team.
