Pieces from "Guitar Composers of the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries"

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College Associate Professor of Art Sean McConnor is exhibiting his paintings at Ohio Northern University’s Elzay Gallery of Art from Oct. 5 though 28.

“Guitar Composers of the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries” features portraits of musicians such as Sir William Walton, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Niccolo Paganini. “It is not my intention to illustrate the history of guitar music as I am not a musicologist. I chose to explore painting and modern portraiture using a subject that interested me personally, and I ran with the motif,” says McConnor.

McConnor received his bachelor’s of fine art from Kent State University in 1996 and his master’s of fine art from Edinboro University in 1998. He has taught at Thiel College since 1999 and also serves as gallery director and curator.

A public reception will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. and includes a lecture by the artist at 1:30 p.m.

The Elzay Gallery is one of two educational art galleries at Ohio Northern University that host national and international exhibitions and programs. Admission to the gallery is free and it is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. daily during the academic year.
