GREENVILLE, PA – Fall is upon the Greenville area and winter is just around the corner—are you dreading all the chores that need done before the snows fly? Let the Thiel Choir help you—while you help them fund their European tour to Austria and Italy in May 2008.
The Thiel Choir is currently raising money for their upcoming trip by doing odd jobs for Greenville area community members. For only $8 an hour, the students will rake leaves, clean gutters, trim bushes, conduct fall and spring cleaning, wash windows, clean closets, basements and garages, power wash a house, dust, vacuum, mop, clean garden plots, paint (interior and exterior), wash and wax cars, or serenade you, if you prefer. If you don’t have any work that needs done, consider hiring the choir to help your neighbor, parents or friends.
Every four years, the Thiel Choir mounts a European tour. This year will mark the 10th trip the choir has made abroad; the last trip was to Scandinavia. The concert tour of Austria and Italy begins in Salzburg, Vienna where the choir will perform in the Salzburg Cathedral and ends in Rome, Italy, where the choir’s final concert will be at the hilltop village of Tivoli. In between, the students will have opportunities for traveling, sightseeing and much singing. They will explore the canals of Venice, stay at a convent in Spoleto, Italy and sing with a local men’s choir in Mestre—and much more.
The cost per student of the trip is $3,100, and any costs not covered by the Choir’s fundraising activities will be the responsibility of the students, many of whom will take out loans or work several jobs in order to sing in some of Europe’s greatest cathedrals.
“The support of the local community is invaluable in providing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our choir members,” says Dr. Michael Bray, director of the Thiel Choir. “The success of this fundraiser is vital to making this dream a reality for every member of our choir.”
The Thiel Choir also will hold a concert in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel in late April to benefit the trip. (Look for more details in the spring.)
