pitt chancellor nordenberg returns to thiel for business program

University of Pittsburgh Chancellor and CEO Mark A. Nordenberg served as guest speaker at Thiel College’s Senior Business Seminar Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Sawhill-Georgian Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.

Nordenberg, who is a 1970 alumnus of Thiel, spoke to junior and senior business administration and accounting majors about his career path to becoming the chancellor of Pitt, one of the nation’s leading public research universities and one of the oldest institutions of higher learning west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Nordenberg has served as Pitt’s17th chancellor since 1996.  Nordenberg came to the University in 1977, when he joined the Pitt law faculty. He served as dean of the School of Law from 1985 until 1993 and as interim provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs from 1993–1994. In 1994, he was elevated to the special faculty rank of Distinguished Service Professor. The University’s Board of Trustees elected him interim chancellor in 1995 and chancellor a year later.

The 12-week Senior Business Seminar, held each spring, format provides Thiel’s top business students the opportunity to meet and interact with alumni who have enjoyed distinguished careers in the corporate and foundation worlds.

At Wednesday’s event, Nordenberg also was named an honorary inductee to Chi Eta Sigma, the national commerce honorary.

Founded in 1866, Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., is a liberal arts, sciences and professional studies college related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
