Open houses for
David Johnson Memorial Chapel next week
For immediate release April 26, 2006
GREENVILLE,
PA – The community is invited to tour
Thiel College’s
new chapel, the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, during
two public open houses next week.
The open houses will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 and
from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 4. Visitors may tour the chapel, speak
with campus pastor the Rev. Dr. Paul Baglyos, and enjoy light refreshments.
The chapel will be officially dedicated at a ceremony on Saturday, May
6.
Ground was broken for the chapel in the fall of 2003 following a lead
gift from Greenville residents the late Rev. Col. John O. Woods and
his late wife Dr. Arlene Sitler Woods.
The $1.8 million chapel—funded entirely by gifts from alumni and
friends—is named for David Johnson, son of Dr. Glen R. Johnson,
chairman emeritus to the Thiel College Board of Trustees,
and his wife, LaVonne Johnson. David Johnson passed away during the
fall of 2002.
Desmone & Associates Architects of Pittsburgh
served as the lead architects for the chapel project, while Robert
Saunders of RW Saunders LLC, a construction management firm based
in Pittsburgh, served as the project manager. Rien Construction Co.
of Brookfield, Ohio, served as the general contractor to the project.
The open houses are both free and open to the public. No reservations
are necessary.
