Harris Room

The Harris Room

In appreciation for the large and generous support of Walter J. Harris and the outstanding contributions of Ruth Morton Harris to the education profession, the Literature Collection Room was dedicated in 1984 to the memory of Ruth M. Harris, Class of 1928.

Ruth Morton Harris, a Greenville native, graduated from Greenville High School in 1924. She attended Thiel College from 1924-26 and received her bachelor's degree cum laude from Oberlin College in 1928. She received an MA in French in 1935 from Middlebury College. During her 27 years as an educator, Mrs. Harris taught at Union City High School, Beaver Senior High School, and Edinboro College.

Thiel Archives

tomcat
The artifacts in the photos are among many housed in the Thiel Archives. The gear on the left belonged to Syd Hesse who played for the Tomcats between 1916 - 1920. The papier mache mascot head (and the suit as well) was likely used in the 1950's or early 60's. If anyone has any "history" attached to the items, one may contact the archivist or send an e-mail to tcmegan@gmail.com.

The Thiel Archives are housed on the second floor of the Langenheim Memorial Library. They are not open to the public except through arrangement by the archivist.

Tri-Synod Archives

The records of many Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia Lutheran synods and congregations, especially disbanded congregations, are housed in the TRI-SYNOD ARCHIVES administered by the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod, Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod and West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

LOCATION: The TRI-SYNOD ARCHIVES is located on the lower level of Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College. Thiel College provides the space for the Archives, but college staff is not involved in the administration or work of the Archives.

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays
The archivist is usually in the Archives during these hours but sometimes is not because of meetings and work off-site. IF YOU WISH TO VISIT THE ARCHIVES IN PERSON, IT IS NECESSARY THAT YOU CALL OR WRITE AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. Limited hours and duties make it impossible to guarantee that the archivist will always be there during the posted hours.
