The Counseling Center Mission
Diversity and Cultural Competence

Welcome to the Counseling Center

Our staff is available to help Thiel students solve personal, social, and academic problems by providing individual evaluation, counseling, and urgent consultation. Call 724-589-2754, or visit us on the second floor (Room 201) of the HMSC Building.

We help students who are dealing with everyday problems related to college life, as well as students with more serious concerns. Crisis intervention is available daily to help students manage acute personal crises.

CC is here to assist you in your personal and academic growth. We believe that you will have greater academic success if you pay attention to your goals in college and in life, your needs and feelings, your relationships with others, and your academic skills. If you would like to talk with us here at CC, call 724-589-275 to make an appointment, or visit us on the second floor (Room 201) of the MHSC Building.

Please note, CC services are available exclusively to Thiel college students. The material provided in this web site does not replace face-to-face consultation with a counselor.

Please contact us in person or by phone if you would like assistance with a personal concern.

CC is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
After 5:00 pm, please call public safety at 724-589-2222 for assistance.

NOTE: If you are not a Thiel student, and you have a clinical concern, you are advised to seek assistance with an appropriate professional in your area: American Psychological Association answers questions on choosing a therapist, and provides contact information nationwide or you can call the APA at 1-800-964-2000.

The CC’s Commitment to Multiculturalism and Diversity

CC is committed to understanding and respecting all individuals. CC values people of every background having access to our services and being treated with respect and dignity.

The professional ethics and standards of the various mental health fields represented at CC
sets a framework for understanding how facets of identity (e.g., gender, ethnicity, race, sexual/affectional orientation, age, physical and mental abilities, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic class) enhance the understanding and treatment of all people. We have an approach to mental heath that integrates physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and cultural dimensions of wellness.

An important goal is to promote an environment that encourages exploration and discussion of
our attitudes and beliefs to issues of difference. CC has strived to reach this goal by providing services to students, staff, and the university community including outreach activities, groups, providing liaisons to the LGBT students, and collaboration with various student organizations and college departments.

CC believes that it is important to educate ourselves about multicultural issues.
It enhances Counseling goals related to diversity. It is committed to increasing awareness and promoting understanding of multiple cultural identities and experiences within the college  community.

To promote this we connect with and provide culturally appropriate services to students, enhance multi-cultural competencies of Counseling, collaborate with other college departments through consultation, training, and outreach, and assist in the creation of an internal environment at CC integrates and affirms diversity

Safe ZoneCC is a member of the Safe Zone
