VOCABULARY Greek Terms and Common Phrases at Thiel College People are often skeptical and unsure of things they do not completely understand. Here is a short tutorial to help enlighten you about the "Greek World."
organization Alumnae- a sorority member who has graduated from college Alumnus- a fraternity member who has graduated from college Badge/Pin- the insignia that designates a Greek organization Bid- an invitation to join a fraternity or sorority Chapter- name for local organization of a national fraternity/sorority Dues- money paid to a sorority or fraternity to cover expenses, suchs as socials, insurance, leadership programs and member recruitment. Initiation- ceremony during which new members take their vows for full membership into the chapter Interfraternity Council (IFC)- the governing body of fraternities Legacy- a student whose parent, grandparent or sibling is a member of a particular fraternity or sorority Mixer- a theme party between Greek organizations New Member- a member who has not been initiated Panhellenic Council (NPC)- the governing body of sororities Philanthropy- a chapter's specific charitable organization(s) that they donate money and volunteer hours to
