The Community Building Initiative is aimed at fostering a sense of community and togetherness on Thiel’s campus as well as between Thiel and the greater Greenville community. The CBI launched during the 2008-2009 academic year. During its first and second years, the CBI focused on six different types of events—Community Experiences, Community Gatherings, Community Traditions, Community Worship, and Community Greening. In the second year, Community Wellness was added. In the 2010-2011 academic year, the CBI altered its format to include a smaller slate of events, four events per semester that fall into the categories of workshops, festivals, food events and speakers. The new format will allow the CBI to attract a greater range of participation and increase the variety of events offered. Community Greening initiatives and Wellness activities will operate on continual basis throughout the year. All Community Building Initiative events are free and open to the public, but free will donations will be accepted at some events to cover the costs of programming or for donation to a charitable organization.
