Students desiring to pursue their passion for Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Colorguard, or Majorettes are eligible to audition for a Thiel Band Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on student ability as determined by audition. Band scholarships are renewed annually contingent upon successful participation in designated ensemble(s) and maintenance of a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Audition Requirements
Instrumentalists are asked to prepare a solo, etude, or selected musical piece which demonstrates your highest level of ability. Suggestions include band festival audition solos, solo and ensemble sections, recital repertoire, appropriate etudes, or significant excerpts from ensemble repertoire.
Color guard and majorette candidates are asked to choreograph and perform a one and a half - to three-minute routine to a recorded selection that displays your abilities with baton or flag. Color guard students with riffle, sabre, or air blade experience can also incorporate these into the routine. Please bring a compact disc or MP3 player containing your musical selection to your audition.
Students living more than 2 hours away from Thiel may elect to audition by video recording. At the beginning of your video, be sure to state your full name and high school, announce your selection and then begin your performance. The video should be a continuous recording and should be submitted unedited. Students must have applied prior to audition.
Auditions are scheduled on an individual basis. Contact Mr. Erb, Director of Bands, and aerb@thiel.edu or 724-589-2282 to schedule an audition.
