Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride
The Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride is the newest addition to the large instrumental ensembles at Thiel. Founded in 2010, the Pride has become one of the largest organizations on Thiel's campus. A contemporary style ensemble, the Pride places great emphasis on achieving musical and marching excellence on the field as well as academic and social excellence off the field. As musical ambassadors, the Pride represents Thiel College at all home football games, local and regional band shows and parades, and other community events. The Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride is open to any student with previous instrumental, colorguard, or majorette experience.
Thiel College Concert Band
The Thiel College Concert Band rehearses and performs spring semester. Focusing on both traditional and contemporary concert band literature, the concert band offers instrumental students an opportunity to excel on their instruments, further their enjoyment of playing, and broaden their overall musical experience. Concert Band can be taken for credit or non-credit.
Greenville Symphony Orchestra
The GSO has been entertaining audiences for over 83 years. Consisting of professional, amateur, and student musicians, the GSO is an auditioned ensemble which performs 3 major concerts each year. The GSO has performed with such artists as Johnny Angel and the Halos and Liam Teague, and has enjoyed guest conductors including Jeopardy's Alex Trebek. Interested Thiel students are guaranteed an audition with the conductor of the GSO, and if selected may perform with the ensemble for credit.
Pep Band
The Thiel Pep Band performs at several home men's and women's basketball games. Consisting of a pseudo rock band (drum set, bass guitar, electric guitar, and keyboards) and wind instruments, the pep band is a high-energy and entertaining ensemble which has become a campus favorite at basketball games.
Winter Guard
The newly formed Thiel Winter Guard is open to any student wishing to explore the art of flag, riffle, sabre, or air blade spinning. A competitive ensemble, the Thiel Winter Guard performs at several competitions throughout the Pittsburgh area.
How to Join
Thiel's band program is open to any Thiel student with prior instrumental music, colorguard, or twirling experience. Band members should register for MUS467 (Marching Band) or MUS468 (concert band) either for credit or non-credit. Scholarships
Scholarships are available for participation Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Colorguard, Winter Guard, and Majorettes. Scholarships are awarded based on audition results and renewed year-to-year pending successful participation in designated ensembles and maintenance a 2.5 GPA or higher.
