Artina Trader

Head Women's Basketball Coach
Senior Woman Administrator
Artina J. Trader

Artina  J. Trader begins her fourth season as the head women's basketball coach at Thiel College.  In her second season as head coach, the Tomcats earned a third place seeding for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament.  The previous year, Trader guided the Tomcats to a PAC Tournament semi-final appearance.

In her short tenure with the Tomcats, Trader has had two student-athletes eclipse the 1,000 career point plateau, as well as a player recognized as a pre-season all-American (DIII News), two all-Great Lake Region (d3hoops.com) selections, five earn all-PAC accolades and six earned recognition as the conference player of the week.  In the classroom, the Tomcats have had eight achieve mention on the Dean’s List.

Trader, a native of Annapolis, Md., is a 1999 graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College. While at North Carolina Wesleyan, Trader was a member of a Dixie Conference Tournament Championship (currently the USA South Athletic Conference) and appeared in the NCAA Division III National Tournament (1999). She was a three-year starter at point guard and a two-time captain for the Battling Bishops.  During her junior (160) and senior (151) campaigns, Trader led the conference in assists.  Trader graduated holding the Bishop records for most assists in a game (14) and most free-throws made and attempted in a season (125-175).

Trader served two stints as an assistant at Allegheny College the first from 1999 until 2002 and again during the 2003-04 season.  A strong recruiting effort helped the Gators regain the dominance of the 1980’s.  In 2001, Allegheny earned the first regular season North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) title since 1989.  In 2004, the Gators made their first appearance in the NCAC championship game in 15 years.  From 2000 to 2004, Allegheny had a 46-18 record in conference play and had 12 players selected to the all-NCAC team.  In 2003, the conference coaches recognized recruiting efforts of the staff with the program’s first NCAC Newcomer of the Year honor.

Before her second stint as an assistant at Allegheny, Trader was an assistant coach at John Carroll University from 2002 through 2003. She was the head junior varsity coach and also served as the recruiting coordinator.
Trader also serves as the Senior Woman Administrator at Thiel.

Morgan has worked several basketball camps, which includes working the past six summers at the Keystone State Basketball camps in Reading, Pa. and Slippery Rock, Pa.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Morgan played at Upper St. Clair High School, helping lead the Panthers to a WPIAL title in 1996.
