Head Softball Coach
Amy Schafer

Amy Schafer is in her third season at Thiel as the head softball coach.

A 1999 graduate of Perry Traditional Academy and a 2003 graduate of Bethany College, Schafer was a NCAA Division III all-American catcher under the direction of head coach Jan Forsty in 2002 while earning first team all-Region honors in both 2002 and 2003. She was also named an all-PAC first team selection from 2001-2003.

During the 2003 and 2004 seasons Schafer served as an assistant coach under head coach Lori Schimmel at the College of Wooster. She also served as the recreation supervisor of the Gault Recreation and Fitness Center at Wooster. As an assistant with the Fighting Scots, Schafer managed daily practice planning, was responsible for breaking down both hitting and fielding film and was also heavily involved in the recruitment of potential student-athletes.

During the 2002 season Bethany compiled a 32-10 record and earned its second-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament, which the Bison won the Central Region and earned a trip to the NCAA Division III World Series for the first time in the program's history.

While at Bethany Schafer was honored as a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-Academic team in 2002 and was named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll in 2001 and 2002.

Besides her duties with the softball program Schafer is also the house manager of Hunton Hall.

Samantha Steele

Samantha Steele is in her second season as an assistant softball coach at Thiel.

Steele is a 2006 graduate of Bethany College (WV), where she competed as a four-year member of head coach Jan Forsty's Bison softball squad. At Thiel Steele will work under third-year head coach Amy Schafer, a 2003 Bethany graduate and All-American catcher under Forsty.

Steele earned a bachelor's of science degree in psychology (scientific track) while graduating summa cum laude. She was named Greek Woman of the Year by her peers in 2005 and earned Dean's List honors eight times during her time at Bethany.
