Tim Loomis
Tim
Loomis is in his second season as the head men's basketball
coach at Thiel.
Loomis,
who most recently served as the head basketball coach at
Kennedy Catholic High School (2001-2006), sports an extensive
resume that has included stops at both the NCAA Division
I and II levels. He served as the head men's basketball
coach at Florida Atlantic University from 1989-1995. Prior
to his appointment at Florida Atlantic, Loomis was an assistant
at NCAA Division I Penn State University from 1986-1989
and the head men's basketball coach at NCAA Division II
California University of Pennsylvania from 1980-1986.
Loomis, who coaching
experience spans more than 25 years, began his career as
an assistant coach at NCAA Division II California University
of Pennsylvania in 1978 and took over as the head coach
for the Vulcans in 1980. While at California (Pa.), his
team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
championship in 1985 and were runners-up in the PSAC Western
conference in 1983-1984. After the 1984-1985 season Loomis
was awarded with PSAC Coach of the Year honors. Loomis
also served as an associate professor in the field of regional
planning and geography and the president of the PSAC basketball
coaches association while at California (Pa.). His efforts were recognized in October, 2007 when he was inducted into the Califoria (Pa.) Hall of Fame.
From California
(Pa.) Loomis moved on to State College, Pa. as an assistant
coach under Penn State University head coach Bruce Parkhill
from 1986 to 1989. While at Penn State Loomis was responsible
for recruitment, game and practice preparation and academic
guidance in regard to the individual student-athlete. In
1989 the Nittany Lions were selected to participate in
the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) after advancing
to the Atlantic-10 championship game.
During his six-year
stint as the head coach at Florida Atlantic, Loomis helped
advance a second-year NCAA Division II program to a NCAA
Division I program in just two seasons. He was responsible
for developing the booster club, the academic advising
protocol and securing radio and television network coverage
while devising a national recruiting strategy.
After returning
home to Greenville to serve as the head coach at Kennedy
Catholic, Loomis advanced the Golden Eagles to the Pennsylvania
Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state playoffs
in each of his five seasons, including appearances in the
finals in 2001-2002 and 2004-2005.
A 1976 graduate
of Lock Haven University, Loomis went on to earn a master's
degree in regional planning and geography from California
(Pa.) in 1979.
Loomis, his wife Dr. Sharon Hamilton and their son Jonathan reside in Greenville.
