For Immediate Release: November 12, 2007 THIEL'S LORBER AND KOYL HEADLINE 14 TOMCATS NAMED TO ALL-PAC SQUAD GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 12) -- Thiel College had 14 student-athletes named to the all-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) football teams Monday. Senior defensive end Chris Lorber (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Benedictine) and senior placekicker Sammy Koyl (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Benedictine) highlighted the group as first team selections. Senior center Jimmy Fawcett (Wexford/Pine-Richland), junior running back Dan Hess (Apollo/Kiski Area), senior defensive lineman Denver Goodman (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge), junior linebacker Sam Swartzfager (Shippenville/Keystone), senior defensive back Antonio Quarterman (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) and senior all-purpose player Marc LaScola (Wellsville, Ohio/Wellsville) were selected to the second team. Senior offensive lineman Jacob Seigel (Madison, Ohio/Perry), senior wide receiver John Adams (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola), senior running back Steve Minton (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley), junior defensive lineman Matt Turek (Grove City/Grove City), senior defensive lineman Aaron Gorka (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) and senior linebacker Michael Stimac (East Brady/Karns City) were named honorable mentions. A three-year starter, Lorber finished the season with 64 total tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.He finished his career with 169 total tackles, 43.5 tackles for loss and 26 sacks. His 26 sacks rank him second on the Tomcat career list while his 43.5 tackles for loss moves him into third on the all-time list. Lorber has been named to the all-PAC teams on three occasions, earning first team honors as both a junior and senior. Koyl finished the season 7-of-10 in field goal opportunities and 16-of-20 in extra-point attempts. His 134 career kicking points rank him second all-time. Koyl was an all-PAC honorable mention selection in both 2005 and 2006. Fawcett started all 10 games for the Tomcats this season and 32 throughout his career. Fawcett has been named to the all-PAC teams three times, earning honorable mention honors in 2005 and second team laurels in 2006. Hess rushed for 867 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. His 1,947 career rushing yards currently ranks him sixth in the Tomcat record book while his 20 career rushing touchdowns rank him third. He was an honorable mention pick following the 2006 season. LaScola was forced into action as the Tomcat quarterback midway through the season when sophomore starter Willie Bova went down with a lower leg injury. LaScola finished the season with 32 receptions for 349 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 275 yards on 69 carries with a pair of touchdowns and threw for 590 yards on 60-of-129 passing with two touchdowns. He was a first team selection as a wide receiver in 2006. His 12 career touchdown receptions rank him fourth all-time, while his 101 career receptions and 1,235 career receiving yards rank him sixth and eighth, respectively, in the Tomcat record book. Minton earned his fourth-straight all-PAC selection. He was a second team pick in 2004, a first-team pick in 2005 and a second-team selection in 2006. He rushed for 432 yards on 87 attempts and three touchdowns in six games this season. Minton finishes his career as the school's all-time leader in rushing yards (2,970), rushing touchdowns (35), rushing attempts (645) and points (216). He is the school's lone 1,000-yard rusher (1,066 in 2005). Stimac picked up his second-straight all-PAC honorable mention selection after finishing the season with 81 total tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. Goodman posted 29 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and a pair of blocked kicks in his first season as a starter. Swartzfager recorded 84 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles in his first season as a starter. Quarterman concluded his senior campaign with 41 tackles, seven pass breakups, 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack and an interception in his second season as a starter. Seigel made 10 starts this season, splitting time between both guard and tackle. He finished his career with 20 starts. Adams had 32 catches for 412 yards and a touchdown in his first season as a starter. In his first year as a starter Turek posted 14 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and one blocked kick. Gorka, also in his first season as a full-time starter, finished with 21 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. Thiel finished the season with a 3-7 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the PAC. |
