For Immediate Release: December 9, 2005 THIEL'S CHAMBERS HIGHLIGHTS FOUR TOMCATS NAMED TO D3FOOTBALL.COM
Also selected to the D3football.com 2005 all-South Region teams were senior offensive tackle Dave Hendricks (Rockton/DuBois), named to the first team offense, sophomore running back Steve Minton (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley), named to the second team offense, and junior safety Darious Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas/West Oak Academy, Fla.), who was named to the second team defense. Chambers shares co-offensive player of the year award with Catholic University senior wide reciever Nick Bublavi. Bublavi caught 101 passes for 1,797 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Cardinals during the 2005 season, averaging 17.8 yards per reception and 194.4 all-purpose yards per game. Chambers finished sixth in Division III in receptions per game (8.2), sixth in receiving yards per game (126.2) and 45th in scoring (8.7 points-per-game). He concluded the season with 90 catches for 1,388 yards and 16 touchdowns. Hendricks, who was recently tabbed to play in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Aztec Bowl in Toluca, Mexico, on Dec. 17, was part of a Tomcat offensive line that allowed just 13 sacks during its 11-1 season. Minton rushed for 1,066 yards on 230 carries with 19 touchdowns to become the school's first 1,000-yard rusher. He finished 20th in Division III in scoring, averaging 10.4 points-per-game. Thompson was second among Tomcat teammates with 48.0 total tackles and finished tied for first in the PAC in interceptions with six. He also added 3.0 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries. Thiel finished the year 11-1 overall and earned their first PAC title since 1972. The Tomcats also made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs and picked up a 28-3 opening round win over Johns Hopkins University before falling in the second round to Bridgewater College 24-13. |
