For Immediate Release: March 3, 2006 THIEL'S MURPHY, KEMBLE BOW OUT OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS EWING, N.J. (March 3) -- Thiel College juniors Corey Murphy (Corry/Corry) and Mike Kemble (Ravenna, Ohio/Southeast) failed to advance to the second day of competition at the 2006 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, hosted by the College of New Jersey. Murphy, who came in Friday as the number four seed at 165 pounds, earned a bye in the opening round before suffering a pin fall loss (4:45) to fifth seed Gerald Bowne of York College. After dropping into the consolation bracket, Murphy fell to third-seeded Richard Howard of McDaniel College 13-7. Howard picked up a 4-2 decision against Murphy earlier in the year. Murphy concluded the season with a 22-5 record. Kemble, who entered the tournament unseeded at 157 pounds, drew top seed Joey Galante of The College of New Jersey in the opening round and fell 6-2. In the consolation bracket Kemble lost by fall (2:01) to seventh-seeded Elliot Spence from the College of Mt. Saint Joseph. Spence picked up a 7-4 decision against Kemble in the championship match at the Midwest Regional Qualifier last month. Kemble finished the season with a 22-5 record. |
