Joseph George Receives 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Joseph A. George, president and owner of Joy Cone Co., received the 2011 Haller Enterprise Institute Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Thiel College at a dinner ceremony on Wednesday, October 5.
Given annually to a business owner who has demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership, the award, now in its 17th year, was presented by Thiel President Dr. Troy VanAken and Professor David Miller, executive director of the Haller Enterprise Institute. Thrivent Day at Thiel College

Thiel Players Fall Production
The curtain rises on the Thiel Players' fall production, "Dangerous Liaisons" by Christopher Hampton, on November 2, 3 and 5 in the college's William A. Robinson Theater.
Show times are 8 p.m., with a matinee at 2 p.m. on November 5. To make a reservation, call 724-589-2029. There is no admission fee to the production. For more information, visit here.

Athletics
Softball Earns National Academic Honor
Congratulations to the Thiel Softball team for recently being named a 2011 Top 10 All-Academic Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Tomcats finished seventh with a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.490. It was the first-ever All-Academic Team award for the program. Keep up the good work, both on and off the field!
Cross Country Coach Qualifies for Olympic Trials
Assistant Track/Cross Country Coach Jed Christensen recently earned a 14th-place finish at the 2011 Chicago Marathon, and in doing so secured a spot in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston, Texas. Jed completed the race in a time of 2:18:31 (a pace of 5:18 per mile).
Of his success related to the Thiel Cross Country program, Christensen said: "My focus is on giving this program everything I have, and my motivation going into the Chicago Marathon was knowing that I needed to do my best because this team could feed off of that success and it would give prospective student-athletes the confidence that they will be coached at a high level when they're deciding to attend Thiel."
