Since 1866, Thiel College has been a place for Lutheran young people to continue their journeys of life and faith. Thiel demonstrates this commitment to faith by being one of the only Evangelical Lutheran Church in America colleges and universities to provide chapels in every residence hall, as well as providing a strong campus ministry program.
For students, Thiel College is often their first experience living away from their home, their family and their church. It can be a difficult transition, and a vibrant, active campus ministry program can help make that transition a healthy one.
The campus ministry experience at Thiel is multi-faceted. The campus pastor serves as a worship leader, a counselor, a mentor and much more. Thiel College's campus pastor embodies the life and love of Christ for the student body and the entire campus community.
Lutheran services of Word and Sacrament are held at least twice weekly during the academic year. In addition, worship services in the African? American Religious Tradition are held Sunday afternoons, and Roman Catholic Mass is held monthly on campus.
Thiel's Campus Ministry Program offers many opportunities and activities in which students can participate and become involved on the Thiel Campus:
- Lutheran Student Movement (LSM)
LSM is open to all students at Thiel regardless of religious affiliation. Lutheran Student Movement is a part of LSM-USA, and members participate in regional and national gatherings. The Thiel LSM sponsors speakers and occasional social activities.
- Thiel Christian Fellowship (TCF)
The TCF aims to glorify God and serve the Thiel Community by promoting Christ-centered campus-wide fellowship opportunities and social alternatives. TCF members offer regular Bible studies and small group activities.
- Organization of Black Collegiates (OBC)
OBC participants host a worship service for all members of the campus community on Sunday afternoons in Burgess Chapel.
- Newman Organization
The Newman Organization is a group for Roman Catholic students and offers opportunities for worship, enrichment and fellowship.
- Pre-Seminary Opportunities
Students interested in seminary studies meet with the campus pastor for discernment and exploration of ministerial vocation and church leadership opportunities.
